Pitchpath

About and method

What this is

Pitchpath Careers is a static, self-contained guide to careers in football. It covers playing, coaching, medical and performance, analysis, scouting, sporting direction, agents, officials, operations, commercial, media, governance, community work and business. Every page is generated from data files, so the site can be extended by editing data and rebuilding.

How qualification ratings work

Each role is rated on how much a qualification matters to get in. Required means a law, regulator or competition rule sets a qualification, licence or registration. Strongly preferred means most employers expect one. Helpful means it can strengthen an application. Not needed means hiring is decided by evidence such as reports, sessions, projects, references and relationships. These ratings are general guides. Individual employers, leagues and countries can differ.

How pay estimates work

Each role has an illustrative UK pay range in thousands of pounds. Regions scale that range by a rough pay factor and a fixed exchange rate. Many football roles are unpaid, part-time, commission-led or variable, and playing pay varies enormously. Treat the numbers as relative guides, not offers, and check current job adverts, union data and association guidance.

Qualifications and regulation

Coaching licences, agent rules, medical registration and club licensing change. Course outlines here are simplified. Confirm eligibility, fees, content and recognition with the awarding body, association or league before you start.

Match me, builder and quiz

The match tool scores roles on skills, experience routes, interests and qualifications, and flags missing hard gates. The pathway builder finds a sensible route between two roles using declared next steps, same-sector progression and shared skills. The quiz suggests sectors worth exploring. None of these is a diagnosis. Talk to people doing the work.

Extending the site
